On Friday the 12th May in Ballincollig and CIT, the last of the “play off” games were played in the Post Primary School U17 1/2 Hurling competition, The Lord Mayors Cup 2016. With the weather on our side at both venues the teams took to the field in both venues in scorching heat and and a blaze of sunshine.
To help schools prepare senior teams for competitions in both Hurling (2016/2017 season), it was decided to run an U17 1/2 competition at 3 grades, open to all schools. All schools county wide were invited to participate and the schools listed below took the opportunity to take to the fields in CIT and Ballincollig over the last week.
The competition is a joint project between Cork GAA, Rebel Og and Cork Post Primary Schools and is organised by the coaching staff, headed up by GPO Noel Crowley. The qualifying rounds will be played over six days, with finals in Pairc Ui Rinn on Thursday May 19th for the Hurling. This initiative is in addition to a further Lord Mayors Cup competition in football ran by Jim Murphy on the 27th April in Football.
