Hi all,
Just a quick update on some of the work and news going on in the North Region recently.
National schools
4th class football blitz
We had over 360 kids take part in a 4th class football blitz representing 18 different schools in the Avondhu area in Kilavullen last Wednesday.
Upcoming events
Duhallow area 4th class football blitz in Newmarket on Wednesday 12th, which already has 16 teams registered, over 160 players. Schools have until this Friday to register with me for this.
North region National School 3rd class football blitz (open to all schools in Avondhu and Duhallow) in Mallow Thursday 27th. Schools are already registering for this.
Benchmarking
Reminder to all clubs that National schools coaching is number 1 requirement for benchmarking 2020. Juniors, seniors, first and second are the classes that need to be focused on as part of this.
Club-school link day
If your club has not invited the school down to the local pitch, please do so over the coming weeks as benchmarking for the year is closing the end of October and this is one of the requirements also.
Post Primary Schools
First year hurling blitz
A 9-a-side hurling blitz for first year boys takes place in Mallow on Wednesday next for Post primary schools. Already there’s 12 teams booked in for this blitz.
Post primary schools coaching
Schools coaching assistance for both football and hurling is being offered to all Post Primary schools in the region with part of the funding coming from Rebel Og coaching, part from the schools and some from the feeder clubs in the area. There has been a great reaction to this from clubs and it is getting great feedback from the schools. Coaching has started some of the schools already.
Coaching education / Young Whistler refereeing
- Have to help out with national schools coaching.
- Run a first year blitz internally in the school.
- Be available to referee at monster blitz’s for their club.
- Coach in 4 training sessions within their clubs nursery programme, to be signed off on by their clubs coaching officer. (GDA sends parents phone number of each student to the coaching officer of the club they sign up for.)
U13
Hurling and football panels for the winter squad programme are being finalised over the next couple of weeks. GDA and volunteer coaches have been working with these players all over the summer and the goal is to have 48 players on the panel for this winter programme.
A challenge blitz has been arranged for the football squad against Waterford and Wicklow county teams on October 22nd in Dungarvan.
A challenge game has also been arranged for the Hurling squad V Dublin in Dublin on October 16th.
Upcoming trial games
U14
On Saturday 8th October in Buttevant, a trial game is being held for 2002 born players for the u14 football winter training programme squad.
The following weekend a panel from this group will be chosen to represent the region in an inter-regional blitz in Cork.
On Sunday 16th October, the equivalent trial game will be held for the hurling winter training programme in Mallow.
*Players who played for the Cork county team during the Summer are exempt from any trials as they are automatically in the winter training programme.
U15
A trial game is arranged for the region u15 hurling squad (2001 born players) in Mallow on Sunday 30th
U15 football is still to be confirmed as club championships are starting this week.
Courses
Clubs cannot book courses for their club through the GDA anymore, this has to be done online on the Rebel Óg coaching website, and click on courses, from now on.
