On Tuesday 12th September Midleton CBS Post Primary school held their annual 6th class Football Tournament, now in its 4th year, which was open to primary schools in the East Cork area. On the day the 4th year students of Midleton CBS acted as referees, umpires and linesmen under the watchful eyes of teachers Shane Martin and Eoin O’Shea and it was great to see so many young footballers availing of this excellent opportunity to play football and represent the different schools in East Cork.
It was great to see the fantastic school facilities being utilised on the day with the large sports hall being used as a dressing room/meeting point/rest area for all the schools that took part. Outside on the newly refurbished pitch, which was in great order, three pitches were lined out side by side to allow 6 teams play at any given time.
It was great to see ten teams taking part from the following schools with coaches and teachers on hand to help their teams on the day, Carrigtwohill under the guidance of Joe Nolan & JJ Cotter, Saleen & coach/teachers Seamus O’Farrell and Anne O’Neill, Gael Scoil Mainster na Corann & Criostoir Ocathasaigh, Midleton CBS with coach/teacher Eoghan Riordan, Aghada with coach/teachers Ciara Enright and Lar Collins , Gaelscoil Ui Driscoil with Muiris O’Donnchú, Nioclás Ó’Laoghaire Malachai Mac Amhlaoibh and Dungourney National School under the watchful eye of coach/teacher John Boylan.
The blitz was run as seven aside games with each game lasting 15 minutes each team got 4 games before the Shield and Cup Finals. The winners of the Shield and Cup received medals on the day and each team were treated to snacks & refreshments which were handed out at the end of the blitz to all players. All in all, it was great to see the young players on the pitch at Midleton CBS
Midleton CBS are planning another blitz on Tuesday 19th and this time it’s for the hurlers from 6th class schools who will be taking to the fields.
Well done to all the schools who took part in this successful event and to Midleton CBS Principal Maurice Keohane and all his staff for organising this tournament, now in its 4th year we say a big thank you. It looks set to be an annual event that primary schools can look forward to, in the mean time we look forward to next week, Tue 19th, for the Hurling tournament.
