Launch of new Gaelic Football Skills Development Programme

In Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Friday the 6th of Sept, Rebel Óg Coaching announced details of a new club football skills development programme which will see over 800 boys between the ages of 12 and 14 show off their skills in a county wide competition. Coaches are invited to host a kicking skills competition in their clubs with the 3 highest scoring players advancing to Divisional Finals and County Finals in October.

The initiative is being supported by Co Op Superstores. Speaking at the launch, Gillian Foley, Retail Marketing Manager of Dairygold Co Op Superstores outlined “Dairygold, through our retail division Co-Op Superstores is hugely connected with the GAA community in parishes across Cork and we’re looking forward to being involved as main sponsor of this exciting new initiative with Rebel Og Coaching.  People Development is one of Dairygold’s core values and we are delighted to extend the opportunity to young aspiring footballers in Cork to develop their skill set.  We wish all participants the very best of luck.”

Corks newly appointed Football Development Manager, Conor Counihan outlined that “this initiative will help focus on the development of the basic skills of kicking off left and right foot while providing a focus for boys who may not have reason to practice these skills in the GAA off season. He acknowledged the support of Co Op Superstores and that of inter county players and management who were in attendance.

Rebel Óg Chairperson, John Purcell spoke of the joy of recent U17 and U20 All Ireland titles and feels this initiative will help to further develop the skills of the next generation of players who will be aspiring to reach these standards in the future. The skills of the game being executed correctly are always pleasing on the eye and he encouraged all clubs to run competitions in their clubs and have representatives at the Regional Competitions.
