East Cork Post Primary Schools football Shield Final

After many months of Football in the Post Primary Schools of East Cork on Friday 17th May in Carrigtwohill we held our first Final for the Shield between Carrignafoy Community College Cobh and Glanmire Community College.

It was great to see both schools reach the Shield final after playing in their respective groups. Next Friday the 24th May in Castlemartyr we will see the Cup Final.

At the start of the year six Post Primary School accepted the invitation from local GDA Shane Supple to take part in this tournament and they were

  • Midleton CBS
  •  Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal
  • Glanmire Community School
  • Carrigtwohill Community College
  • St Colmans College, Midleton
  • Carrignafoy Community College, Cobh.

This tournament was put in place to cater for 1st yr and 2nd yr students who were not playing football already on their school team. Primarily this was aimed at the second and third teams in the school.

The Shield, sponsored by Rebel Og was presented to the winners by footballer and All Ireland winning manager from Aghada, Conor Counihan.

The game itself was officiated under the watchful eye of Midleton referee Niall O’Neill who kept the game flowing.  Sadly this was not to be Carrignafoys day as Glanmire were the stronger team on the day and they ran out winners after the full time whistle was blown.

A big well done to both schools for taking part. It is good to see the schools involved in this tournament taking part and it allows for more football to be played in the schools for the 2nd and 3rd teams.

Well done to Glanmire Community College who were the winners of the East Cork PPS Schools Football tournament Shield.

The Imokilly Board kindly donated the JAMES COLBERT MEMORIAL CUP which was presented to the winners of the independent Clubs County Junior B Grade Football Championship.

The Cup  commemorates the late Jimmy Colbert a great follower of Ballinacurra and Imokilly hurling and football teams during his lifetime.

In 2018 The Board were approached by East Cork GDA Shane Supple who was looking for a Cup to use for this competition.

The Board agreed that they could allow the Cup be used for this Competition and help support football within the Imokilly Division.

On the day both schools were presented with a Kit Pack containing footballs, sliotars, bibs, cones etc by Conor on behalf of Rebel Og Coaching.
