Cork GAA Coaching Update June 30th 2016

(i) Rebel Og Academy Panels Summer 2016

Rebel Óg Academy football panels and mentors from U14 to U17 for this summer’s programme were launched on Sunday 26th June in CIT. The Players selected have come through a series of inter-regional tournaments and trials over the past nine months and will remain on the squads selected until the conclusion of the summer programme at the end of August, when all county panels will be disbanded and players will again revert to their regions. Many thanks to mentors at Club, School and County level for your continued good work with all players.

The evening started with training at 5pm followed by team pictures at 7pm and the official launch of the summer programme at 7.30pm. A large crowd was there on the night to support the players and teams. A similar night for the hurling squads will take place ahead of their tournaments in August.

(iii) Rebel Og U13 & U14 Development Squads

We will be running Hurling and Football sessions throughout the Summer in various centers around the county.  We will be doing coaching and games at these sessions. It will allow us to get to know the players better and hopefully the players will improve through coaching and games. There seems to be a serious shortage of games for the rest of the year for Boys at this age. We would hope that these sessions can keep boys interested and sharp throughout the summer.
It is important to note:
·         If a club has a match on the same day, the players are not to attend the session.
·         It is important for the club mentors to speak to us about any issues that may arise.
·          These are not trials.
·         All players born on the age are invited to attend.

To help schools prepare senior teams for competitions in both Hurling and Football (2016/2017 season),  it was decided to run an U17 1/2 competition at 3 grades, open to all schools.

(viii) Munster U12 Activity Days

Munster Coaching & Games are giving clubs an exciting opportunity to participate in a series of blitz days at County Stadia.

The blitzes are for under 12 club teams and will be 11 a side. Each club will get the chance to play 3 games on the pitch against teams from other counties as well as a talk with a county player and a stadium tour.

This initiative is in its 6th year and has been a very enjoyable day out for the clubs that have taken part in the past.

The dates for the blitzes are as follows
July 19th/20th/21st  :   Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney     (Football Blitzes)
August 6th              :   Gaelic Grounds, Limerick          (Hurling Blitzes)
August 3rd/4th/5th   :   Semple Stadium, Thurles         (Hurling Blitzes)

We would encourage all clubs to apply for participation in at least 1 venue however as it is a great opportunity for boys to play in the same stadium as their idols. The games are about participation rather than winning and give coaches the opportunity to give all squad members a day to remember for the rest of their lives.

To register your interest in taking part please complete the form below.
