2017 Rebel Og Football Squads Launched

On Saturday afternoon 10th June 2017 in Cork IT GAA grounds in Bishopstown, the Rebel Og Football Squads at U15 and U16 for 2017 were launched ahead of their competitions in early July following a six-month trial period which included training camps, inter-regional tournaments and on-going trials. On the day the players went through some training sessions and games under the watchful eyes of their mentors and parents in the stands, while some of our U14 Regional panels, who were also present in CIT on the day, were playing games on the various pitches at CIT Ground before all players were presented with their training tops and socks and shorts for the coming season.

MC for the event, GDA, Shane Supple welcomed everyone along and introduced Kevin O’Callaghan our Games Manager to speak first, Kevin outlined what was happening over the next few months and what was expected of the squads in terms of games and training, he thanked the parents and players as well as the mentors for all their hard work during the year and wished them all the best going forward.

Next to speak was John Purcell, Cathaoirleach Coiste na n-Óg Chorcaí, he too wished the young players well and thanked everyone for the hard work and commitment involved in getting this far and hoped that the young players would learn from this experience and would someday go on to represent Cork at the top level. He wished them well and was delighted to be part of this very special occasion.

Kevin O’Donovan, Oifigeach Oiliúna County Coaching Officer spoke about what it takes for clubs mentors teams and players to reach this level, the hard work involved and the hard work that has to continue from players, mentors and everyone involved, he also thanked everyone for the work to date outlining the process and procedures put in place to help these young player achieve success.

Our final speaker on the day Ger Lane, Cathaoirleach Coiste Chontae Chorcaí echoed all that the three previous speakers had said and he also wished the young players every success going forward, he outlined the work and money that was spent throughout the year in maintaining  our squads and that it was money well spent when you look at how well our young squads do. He hoped that he would be talking to these young players as senior players going forward and wished them every success going forward.

The players were then presented with the Rebel Og Summer Academy Programme for 2017 and adjourned for some hot food before travelling as a group to Pairc Ui Rinn to watch Cork v Tipperary in the senior Football game.

We must say a big thank you to everyone involved from our players, parents, mentors and backroom staff, our GDA’s and everyone who helped orgainse this event, to the staff at CIT for the use of the great facilities we must say thank you, as always everything was in perfect order with the pitches in fantastic condition on the day. Next up for these young players are competitions in early July and we wish all teams every success going forward.
